Building Colorado for 100 Years

Our story began in 1913. Five generations of builders and a century later, the Tamminga name continues to serve as a leader in Colorado's construction industry.

Our story began a century ago when William Tamminga made the move to Colorado from New York after being hired to build Bethesda Sanitarium. The Bethesda Tuberculosis Sanitorium was established to help those from Dutch Reformed communities across the United States who had Tuberculosis. Subsequently, many Dutch Reformed families moved to Denver so a family member could be treated. Many of these families moved into what was then referred to as Little Holland. Denverites today know this area to be Platt Park .

Shortly after William's arrival he brought out his younger brother, John S. Their two younger brothers, Sidney and Garret, soon followed. After completing Bethesda Sanitarium, the Tamminga brothers decided to make Denver home. William founded Tamminga Construction Company, one of the first commercial contruction companies in the city of Denver and what would become one of the longest-standing commercial construction companies in Denver.

William ran the company until 1939, at which point John S. took the reigns. John S. followed the path set by his brother and worked to continue to develop the company by managing projects for many civic and faith-based communities, including Denver Public Schools and the Christian Reformed Church. John S. eventually passed the management of the company on to his eldest son, John R., in 1966. John R. managed Tamminga Construction for 13 years. During this time, he worked closely with community and civic leaders and eventually turned the company over to his younger brother, James (Jim) in 1980. Over the next 11 years, Jim continued to grow the company and managed projects for many commercial partners including the Hyatt Regency and La Quinta Inns. In 1992 he turned the company over to the fifth leader of the Tamminga builders, his son Craig. Today, Craig Tamminga serves as the owner, operator and principal of CT Builders LLC.

Through generations, Tamminga management have devoted their expertise to each owner and every endeavor. The company received many awards including recognition for safety in the workplace and excellence in business. The Tamminga builders played a large role in building the Mile High City's skyline to what it is today. Some are now historic landmarks- proud reminders of our hertitage. We are proud to be a part of Colorado's formative history and we hope you will consider us for your next project.
